# the joint, and why it is the third folder

a connection detail the product opens. `../index.html?src=joint` is the app on it. a set is drawn at
three scales — plan, elevation, detail — and the product is shown at all three: `../floor-73` in
feet, `../brooklyn-bridge` in hundreds of feet, this in inches. it is the joint the mark was taken
from, so the first thing on the screen, before anything is said, is the mark: three centrelines
through one work point.

`build.py` writes `model.json`, 1 kB, the three centrelines and four facts, and `log.json`, 10 kB,
eleven messages. run `python3 build.py`. the geometry is not here: it is imported from
`../../design/joint/draw.py`, the poster's joint, turned from tenths of an inch y down into inches
y up. the poster and the product cannot disagree about a plate.

## what is ink, what is blue

exactly the split `../../design/joint/SOURCES.md` already makes. what is measured there is ink here:
the W14x90, the W18x50, the HSS6x6x3/8, at their published depths (aisc manual, 16th ed., tables 1-1
and 1-12). what is "typical, not measured" there is blue here: the 26" gusset legs, PL 3/4, the
5 1/2" shear tabs, five 7/8" bolts at 3", the continuity plates. nobody gave a brace force, and a
proportion is not a design.

## the redline

message 8, `PL 1, not 3/4. see calc 7.`, is the checker's red that was already on the poster. the
machine picks it up at the other gusset, because it is the same plate through the work point. calc 7
is a story about the markup, not a design value, there and here. k. brandt, pe, and the licence
number are a demonstration.

## rights

ours. a typical joint, not one building's, and the title block says not for construction.
