Our first model reads everything a firm has signed. Then it draws, in blue, and waits for the engineer. Everything on this page is one session at a moment: floor 73 of One World Trade Center, sixteen messages, drawn by the renderer the product draws with.

Every line is a member.

An id, a family, a span, a section, and how it is known. That is the unit the whole product is made of — it is why a line can be clicked, asked, marked and signed.

Every line says who put it there.

Each colour is a claim. Grey is someone else’s drawing. Ink is measured off a published one. Blue is the machine’s, and it stays blue. Red is the engineer’s. One beam, at four moments of one session.

Reference

Assumed

131 members in three minutes, and every one of them blue. The machine put them there, and they wait for a signature.

Marked

W24x68 → W27x84. The engineer’s red, and a ring at each end of every beam that took it.

Signed

The seal lands and blue becomes ink, carrying the name of the engineer who took it.

Four words, and an engineer needs no legend for any of them. The drawing is exactly as sure as what has been checked.

The heavier the line, the more it carries. These are the office’s layers and the office’s weights, read off what they signed.

A layer, a weight, a colour, and a word for how it is known. Every firm already owns a version of it, which is why it already feels like theirs.

The question stands on the member.

One box, two positions. At the foot of the thread when nothing is chosen. On the drawing, on a leader, when there is a member — the checker’s move, and the only way to say one thing about one member.

The line is ink, because the engineer drew it. It is red only when the engineer is writing red.

Every claim cites its sheet.

Every reading is two columns: the drawing as it was read, and what was read off it, with the source under it. The thumbnail is the same renderer, at that moment, showing only the layers the claim used.

Red is the only way to teach it.

The mark an engineer already makes on a check print — picked up everywhere it applies, and kept as a rule for every sheet after.

One irreversible act, and a person does it.

The seal lands once, bottom right, on what is signed. Every blue line turns to ink and takes the signer’s name. Everything else in the product can be undone.

The floor is a reconstruction, and the drawing says so about itself.

The members are reconstructed from the owner’s leasing plan, the sizes are demonstration sizes, and the owner withheld the real ones. The title block reads reconstruction, not for construction. The core linework is © The Durst Organization, kept as reference and credited.
